Μια σημαντική ευρωπαϊκή διάκριση υπήρξε για την Νάντια Γιαννακοπούλου. Την Παρασκευή 18/12/2020, ανακηρύχθηκε μέλος της Διοικούσας Επιτροπής του πανευρωπαϊκού δικτύου Mercator Dialogue. Στόχος της πρωτοβουλίας αυτής, που στηρίζεται από πολύ σημαντικά think tanks παγκόσμιου κύρους, όπως το German Marshal Fund, το ΕΛΙΑΜΕΠ κ.α., είναι η διακομματική συνεργασία κοινοβουλευτικών των μελών κρατών πάνω σε καίρια ζητήματα που αφορούν την Ευρώπη. Πρόκειται επομένως για μια ιδιαίτερα σημαντική και τιμητική διάκριση, επιβράβευση των πρωτοβουλιών στις οποίες έχει πρωτοστατήσει το τελευταίο διάστημα.
Στην τοποθέτησή της, μετά την τιμητική ανάδειξή της σε μέλος της Επιτροπής, η Νάντια Γιαννακοπούλου τόνισε μεταξύ άλλων:
Θα ήθελα να σας ευχαριστήσω θερμά για την τιμητική ανάδειξή μου σε Μέλος της Διοικούσας Επιτροπής του Mercator Dialogue. Θα προσπαθήσω με όλες μου τις δυνάμεις να συμβάλω στο δίκτυο, να προωθήσω τον πολιτικό διάλογο μεταξύ των κρατών μελών και να διαμορφώσω στο βαθμό που μου αναλογεί το πολύ σημαντικό, κοινό μας όραμα για την Ευρώπη.
Ζούμε μια πρωτοφανή κρίση, παγκοσμίως, και οι επόμενες εβδομάδες και μήνες δεν θα είναι εύκολοι. Η προτεραιότητά μας τώρα, είναι να μπορέσουμε να διαχειριστούμε αποτελεσματικά τις επενέργειες της πανδημίας και να μπορέσουμε να ανακάμψουμε σύντομα.
Στο πλαίσιο της πρωτοφανούς αυτής κρίσης, τα κοινοβούλια κλήθηκαν με τη σειρά τους να προσαρμοστούν στις νέες συνθήκες. Οι ψηφιακές τεχνολογίες επιστρατεύτηκαν προκειμένου να κρατήσουν ζωντανό τον πολιτικό διάλογο και να ενισχύσουν τις δημοκρατικές διαδικασίες» .
Στη συνέχεια της τοποθέτησή της, η Βουλευτής έθεσε ορισμένα ζητήματα που θα πρέπει να απασχολήσουν τον ευρωπαϊκό διάλογο και στρατηγική στην παρούσα συγκυρία: την αποτελεσματικότητα των συστημάτων υγείας, την άμεση οικονομική αρωγή ειδικά στους τομείς που βάλλονται περισσότερο, τη διασφάλιση των δημοκρατικών ελευθεριών, την επένδυση στην τεχνολογία και την καινοτομία, την ενίσχυση της εκπαίδευσης, την προστασία των τεχνών και του πολιτισμού.
Κλείνοντας, η κα Γιαννακοπούλου τόνισε ξανά τη σημασία της αλληλεγγύης, της συνεργασίας και της συντονισμένης δράσης μεταξύ των κρατών μελών.

Dear Committee, Colleagues and Fellow MPs
I would like to thank you for this Nomination for which I am deeply honoured. I will do my best to contribute to our network, to promote political dialogue and help shape the future of our important common project, so as to address its need in current and future political times and make proposals on critical strategic decisions.
In the context of the Covid 19 pandemic there’s no doubt that the weeks and months ahead are going to be challenging and the priority now is that we can ride out the impact on different sectors and navigate through turbulent times.
Parliaments worldwide have had to adapt to the challenges created by the COVID-19 crisis. Digital responses have been proposed to keep democratic processes and political debates alive, collecting and sharing best practices on how to reinforce parliamentary democracy.
I would therefore take the opportunity to address some key issues which I think they should be relevant to our considerations and discussions:
- Despite the fact that our first priority is the health of our citizens, at the same time, the coronavirus outbreak is a major shock for the European and global economies. Member States have already adopted or are adopting budgetary, liquidity and policy measures to increase the capacity of their health systems and provide relief to those citizens and sectors that are particularly impacted. On the other hand, there are serious considerations regarding the implementation of additional restrictions on civic freedoms by a number of EU governments which have “brazenly” used the pandemic as an excuse to curtail rights such as free speech, peaceful assembly and freedom of association.
- Digital technologies are now more important than ever. A new digital agenda has to be promoted and facilitated with generous spending on technological innovation and most important on education.
- Thus, EU Member States can actually devise COVID-19 recovery plans to drive new investment in education. Education systems have not been geared towards providing comprehensive online learning as an alternative to, or supplement for, in-class learning. In addition, many schoolchildren, particularly in the EU’s poorer regions, lacked access to wireless internet or a computer at home, or were forced to share these with their siblings. The lack of basic, let alone advanced, digital skills among teachers, combined with inadequate online teaching platforms and tools as well as content unsuitable for online lessons added to these difficulties.
- Nevertheless, in this new, emerging digital context, we should take under serious consideration the protection of the domain of Arts. While there are massive profits for platforms, however those who create this content are not benefitting and are deprived of their fair share of the profits, and with COVID-19 restrictions prohibiting live performances – another source of income – artists and performers are struggling to make ends meet.
Beside these initial issues that I would like to introduce, there many emerging issues which urge our concern and action. However, response to this unprecedent crisis demand the mobilization of a coordinated approach, based on unity and solidarity between European states.
